In most meditation classes they will play new age music tell the group to close their eyes take deep breaths and imagine a place where they would like to be, I have been in a few of these classes and people just fall asleep. For someone just starting out in meditation these classes can be helpful, but there has to be a more serious individual efford before meditation can flower into something dynamic. For me I have always thought that meditation should occur just before the sun rises, this is when the energy of life is at it's zenith. One thing that is right about the classes is the breathing, it is important to take slow breaths from the center of your being from the solar plexis, notice the good energy on the intake, and when you exhale feel the negative energy leave your body. The site where of your meditation is most important, as I have said just before dawn, but this is not set in stone, for me the the morning meditation is the most powerfull it keeps me in tune all day. A back porch outside facing the rising sun is perfect, some buddhist monks in the far East build fantastic gardens just for meditation, they also exist here in the West. The site sould have little noise or distractions, I know this can be hard to find but do your best, use ear plugs if you have to. Just a note you do not have to be outside it can be indoors in a room, there are no rules here, the point is do your best with what you have. The lighting has to be low, just enough so you can see to get around, the purpose for the darkness is very simple you are slowing down the verbal state of the mind. How do'es darkness slow down are thinking, well we turn off the lights when we go to sleep, sleep is a form of stress control, even in are nightmares we are working out things that cannot be worked out in the real world. We cannot see the world in the darkness we close are eyes and drift, because we cannot see things we dont attach to them. In this form of meditation we learn detachment from the world by slowly curbing the verbal state of mind, by clearing the mind of the verbal state one starts to see matters of the spirit. Language is learned at an early age, it is a tool we need to manage our wants and needs, for everything in the world for every object there is a name for it, Thousands upon Thousands of names, one learns more names as one grows older. Our mental capacity is at work with words all the time, even when we are dreaming, one trys to sort out the words to say the right thing to get what is needed, but when words come from emotions sometimes one says the wrong things. The point of all this is that the wrong word said can be upsetting, and in this fast paced world of today the wrong words are used all to often. The ensuing effect is stress, I think we all know the deadly results of stress they are many, that is why a program of meditation is so important. Meditation teaches us detachment, but detachment from what, my point of view is simple I am unlearning the world to open myself to the world of the spirit, and a deeper understanding of myself. The art of meditation is to look inside and not outside of ones self, taking the light away from the many things around you slows the verbal state of mind. By slowing the verbal state of mind one learns detachment from the unimportant events of the world. As we become skilled in this practice we learn the Art of not Doing, this is where we dont respond to events outside our circle of control, we are more aware of spiritual matters. Our sight moves away from the world we start to see something seeing the spirit world our eyes are opened for the first time. Clarity of mind with practise of a program of meditation becomes a larger priority in life, for me it is the first great dynamic of meditation, I will write about emotional balance, and present tense thinking the other Two Dynamics at more length in other journal entrys. The body and the mind or the Ego rejects meditation, because it is a polar sift in thinking one is closing their eyes to the world the one desire they have been paying attention too all their lives, asking ones self to look inward to detach from material things to renounce ownership of people places and things. It is hard to find time for meditation Yoga or Tai Chi or even a simple prayer, it is important for me to strenghten my spirit through meditation in order to stay in tune with a great outer spirit know as the Chi. It comes easy for me, it's like playing the piano for most everyone it is very hard a lot of people give it up, Twenty percent stay at it for a few years and learn some tunes, then theres that Ten percent that are tuners, then there are the One percent who kiss the sky.
